Can ANYBODY apply for a domestic worker?

To be eligible for one domestic helper, it is an official requirement that both of you (couple) are employed and your combined household income equals minimum 36,000 RM per year. In addition, you must have a child, a disabled or elderly person who needs care as a good reason to have a maid.

For two domestic workers the requirements are much higher.

HOW LONG lasts the work contract?

Work contract lasts two years and commences with the employer taking the maid home. Please, mind that this date is usually later than the date of signing the Agency Agreement.

Why cannot I PAY my fees ONLY AFTER I receive my maid?

The process begins while the maid of your choice is still in Indonesia. The moment you choose a maid, you officially become a committed sponsor of the foreign worker. It means, you are responsible for taking care of the legal part such as completeing and submitting all the paperwork and covering the processign fees.

Can I PAY in the deposit LATER?

No. Your agent can neither submit a visa application for a foreign worker of your choice under their (agent's) name, nor is the agency willing to invest any money unnecessarily where the prospective employer is supposed to cover the fees.

No exceptions are made to this rule.

Can I REPLACE my maid?

Yes. You are entitled to replace your maid for whatever reason but only ONCE. This is clrearly stated in the Agency Agreement.

WHY cannot I REPLACE my maid more than once?

Even though we would wish to be able to replace your maid more than once (if there is really such a need) we are limited by immigration government regulations. For you to be legally eligible to have a foreign worker at your home you are oblidged to obtain a visa for the worker prior to arriving in Malaysia. For obvious reasons, replacing your worker more than once should NEVER take place.

Why are agency FEES so HIGH?

The whole process is both lenghty and costy. There are many parties involved in organizing for a foreign worker to come to Malaysia. That includes Indonesian sponsors, Indonesian Embassy, travel agents, Malaysian Labour Office and Imigresen Malaysia, ...and a few more. Your Malaysian, local agent takes only a fraction of what You pay to the agency!

WHY does it TAKE so LONG to have a maid?

The longest time of your waiting is caused by the government officials processing your maid's visa. The application has to be viewed and approved by three seperate government bodies and they normally take around 3 months to do their work.

That includes:

Indonesian Embassy

Labour Office

Imigresen Malaysia

At this stage, If you have any questions about your worker's visa application you should contact Imigresen Malaysia directly - NOT the agency.

Additional time is needed to arrange the journey both in Indonesia and here in Malaysia.

Altogether, it should't take more than 4 to 5 months.

My agent takes TOO LONG to PROCESS the maid's visa!

Many people blame agents for taking a long time to process the documents without understanding that the agent does NOT process visa applications at all.. Visa applications are processed by government officials whereas the agent barely assists in completing and submitting all documents on the employer's behalf.

Should you demand to know WHY it takes so long to process your maids' visa application you should forward your queries directly to the government officials who will inform you about the progress on your foreign worker application.

Do I have to SIGN any AGREEMENT?

Yes, You sign two agreements:

Agency Agreement with the agent - that allows the agency to start arranging things and acting on your behalf in the official process of applying for visa for the worker of your choice.

Agency agreement is signed as soon as you choose your work from agency's data base.

Work Contract - between you and your worker.

Signing the work Contract is the last step in the process. You sign it together with your maid at the presence of the agent.
